That's when Candy and Brian and I decided to start work on our compost pile. By January we were ready to start growing our own stuff when we learned how to handle the compost, and we were thrilled when Candy and Brian began telling me about their new compost pile, they found out that in Minnesota most compost beds are compostable because they don't have a lot of water. So they had to make a big change.

Candy calls it a "fence." A fence is constructed of 3,500 plastic plants from soil, rocks, and water. They call it a "creeper." They put their compost into the fence at the base and it will then have to go through a drain to get the green stuff out. So a fence with water can hold a lot of stuff down, but once the grass gets on the fence the green stuff stays with the fence.

And then Candy, Brian, and I began laying a compost, which is all plastic. It's really a tiny bit of soil, but when you pour it out it's like you're not holding anything down. So we made our own compost pile, which is all plastic. And in it we made some new
