Drilling by John Hutt on Saturday was one of many "red flags" over the use of the chemicals in the hydraulic fracturing and energy system, which is being applied directly into the earth's mantle – one of three major liquefaction techniques used to extract shale gas.

The team that drilled in July had revealed some of the most destructive chemicals in the fracking programme used in the past decade at the same site as the controversial Deepwater Horizon rig, with a further 30 chemicals discovered last month.

They found six at a time in a well that had been a site for hydraulic fracturing, an underground fracturing technique by the company that created the controversial oil and gas industry.

Drilling was conducted using six different equipment, with all the chemicals being injected into drill shafts that were on a separate floor level in order to get the chemicals to leak out of the well.

The team also found some of the six toxic chemicals identified at the site. Three were used to create a water-based shock that would break apart gas wells and blow them apart.

Two of the chemicals they examined were found "possibly formed from hydrocarbon waste from the well site," an examination by Dr Glynne Buss of the University of Wisconsin found.

The final drilling rig was more advanced than previously thought, requiring 12 and 4 times that amount of depth to break and produce the chemicals, and 12 times more than originally thought.
