Linda's dad, John Kollof, was killed in a crash in 2011 after an abusive driver hit his car after receiving a phone call about a domestic dispute.

The 40 year old woman lost control of the Mercedes, her headlights stopped and her radio switched off at the last moment to say "What do we do?"

Then police were called to the home where Linda was taken to hospital. Police said she spent two hours in critical condition.

In a statement to BBC Radio 5 live the family described their ordeal: "They were at home, working on a phone to pay for supplies, but were being told to get out.

"They thought they could get on the way and they were forced to leave the house. They also thought that the driver of the car had not been picked up.

"They called the police and they said no one was home."

Ms Kollof, who lived in Auckland and had no known violent past, found Linda in bed with her ex-boyfriend, Richard, at the same time she and Richard had been sleeping together in the kitchen.

Mrs Kollof's husband, Robert, has now split from his partner because of the ongoing investigation into the crash.
