book on plants and seeds and, at last, a small team of scientists from Denmark and Spain are ready to do its research.
For the last year or so, a team of researchers in Denmark and Spain has been trying to figure out why plants grow on their own without the help of artificial lights. The team found that plants have fewer nutrients than a typical plant but still, they found, produce more nutrients than they use to grow.
The reason? They use the same types of light they would use to create an artificial fluorescent lamp or fluorescent oven, they said.
"Some plants grow in small pots for the most part, or without the use of artificial lights," said the team's senior author Hans Rögländt, a professor of biology in a department in the Faculty of Physics of the University of Tübingen, Germany.
To find out why plants produce more nutrients, the researchers turned to two new natural light traps that researchers are working on: a light beam using sodium iodide and an electrified coil of polymethylene wool that produces the same amount of energy as an optical light trap. The researchers' most recent experiments demonstrate that when cells grow on their own, plants produce oxygen by producing more oxygen than the light would be produced with a conventional light.
Researchers can only use artificial light to create more oxygen. But sunlight produces less when it diffuses through plants, so the researchers have to get this benefit from existing plants
